          Battling Hunger in the Horn of Africa

A humanitarian crisis has slowly unfolded in the Horn of Africa. Drought, conflict, and rising food prices have affected more than 13 million people in the region. Since July, famine conditions have been declared in several southern regions of Somalia. WFP is reaching over 7.4 million drought-affected people, including 990,000 people in Somalia, 3.7 million in Ethiopia, and 2.7 million in Kenya.
The humanitarian community is closely coordinating its relief efforts in Somalia to try to reach as many people as possible. However, in some areas – marked by diagonal lines on the map – access for humanitarian organizations is limited
