Group's Kismayo district commissioner Sheikh Hassan Yaqub

Moderate Islamist group Ahlu Sunna Waljama:
The group's Kismayo district commissioner Sheikh Hassan Yaqub announced on Radio Andalus that those who could not afford to pay the Mujahidin must come to a recruitment center in the town. A businessman, who did not wish to be named for security reasons, told Somalia Report he has no option but to pay. I can easily be charged with disobeying Allah’s order and killed," he said. "Although it is a lot of money that I cannot afford at this stage, I must pay - I am 55 years old; I can't go to Jihad. Another businessman working in the foreign exchange market, whose name is being withheld over safety concerns, called the decision “un-Islamic” and said he would neither pay nor take up arms. He said many of his colleagues and their families were considering heading for the overflowing Dadaab refugee complex in eastern Kenya. They stopped us setting our own currency rates last year, and this year we can’t allow them extort our money," he said.
